Dr. Marvin E. Klein
Dr. Marvin E. Klein was the recipient of the National American Dermatology Association Research Award and member of Galen’s Honorary Medical Society. He gained international recognition for his proprietary formulations, including an esterified glycolic acid (AHA) and a trichloroacetic acid (TCA) masque. The company he created to distribute these products, Glyderm, has since been sold to an international pharmaceutical company and the products continue to be successfully distributed worldwide.
Always the avid researcher, he continued his exploration in search of a formula that provided significant anti-aging benefits without the dryness and irritation commonly experiences with other commercially available products.
His research led to focus on specific amino acids that are present in the epidermis of the human skin and are recognized as part of the Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF) of the skin. These amino acids accumulate in the epidermis of the skin where they function to help prevent water loss in the skin, which is a vital factor in keeping the skin appearing healthy and youthful. Dr. Klein discovered a way to treat, or further acidify, these same amino acids and created the cosmeceutical compounds that became AFAs (Amino acid Filaggrin-based Antioxidants). He found that this remarkable compound revives the skin without the irritation and dryness common to most leading anti-aging products. AFAs provide rejuvenation for aging and photo damaged skin, by exfoliation and potent antioxidant activity.
From there, Dr. Klein formulated AFAs into in-office peels and home skin care products. Over the next three, years Dr. Klein’s AFA products were tested by board certified dermatologists and his AFA formulations were patented (US Patent # 6,197,317 and # 6,703,030, with other patents still pending). Since then, AFAs have experienced tremendous success and are now used in over 32 countries around the world by leading dermatologists, plastic surgeons and universities.
